Duo Acquavella are a classical duo, performing international music on mandolins and mandola. They are currently signed to American classical label, Centaur Records, Inc. Their latest album, along with the Bach Collegium San Diego, on Centaur Records, is titled Gimo-Samling: 18th Century Sonatas and Triosonatas for Mandolin. The new release will be available in the USA, Canada and digitally world-wide on March 11, 2016. World-wide release dates will be announced by individual countries. Pre-order sales are available now.
Chris Acquavella and Stefanie Acquavella-Rauch first met at the 2003 gathering of the European Guitar and Mandolin Youth Orchestra (EGMYO) in Patras/Greece – but it wasn’t until nearly ten years later that they decided to form this special duo. Both have performed as soloists as well as in different chamber music formations in various parts of the world like North America, Europe and Australia. In their repertoire, they cover a wide range of music, from new music – written especially for them – to cross-over projects and music of the 19th and 18th century using mandolins and mandola.
Apart from being performing artists, they are also well-known educators for mandolin and mandola. Over the past years they have been invited to teach at international courses like the David Grisman & Mike Marshall Mandolin Symposium, the convention of the Classical Mandolin Society of America or the yearly master course of the Austrian federation VAMÖ. They also developed their own course concepts like the San Diego Classical Mandolin Camp and a program especially suited for people of the age of 50+.
